Ladies and gentlemen,
Boys and girls,
Step right up, step right up,
Come closer, you won’t believe your eyes…
Boys and girls,
Step right up, step right up,
Come closer, you won’t believe your eyes…
Kansas looked down over the vast expanse of the giant loch before him, brown pelt standing like a shadow on the peak of the mountain, ruffling occasionally in the chill breeze. This would be it. His home, from now on. Anyone who dared try taking it from him would feel his teeth at their neck, this he promised himself, and never would he let his future pack down without a fight. Dark lips curled around his pearly white fangs as he thought of the conflicts that would surely follow, and it raised a deep, menacing chuckle from his throat. Already, he could almost feel their blood running down his gullet, still hot from their living bodies. It sent shudders of pleasure racing up and down his spine, but he ignored them for now, regaining himself, startling blue eyes glaring over his future territory once more. This would be the place where the lives of the wolves took a new turn, a new beginning for his powerful kind. Much more sophisticated and deadly than those bumbling mutts that lived in the city. Soft footed cretins they were, and a slow and painful death was all they deserved. Kansas hadn’t been down to the city borders in a long time now, but the nauseating fumes from those horrible machines racing up and down the concrete paths made him sick, as much as seeing the whimpering faces of the pitiful dogs that lived there. He hadn’t met a canine like that in his life that had a real backbone, which could really put up a fight against a strong wolf like him, and he almost wanted to meet one, just to have a challenge, for once. He was growing tired with the simplicity of destroying those dogs, and even though he rarely ran into one, he knew for sure that the next dog who dared step out into the countryside would be slaughtered by a whole pack of wolves, the very same pack that Kansas would train to become strong and ruthless, like himself. He was a fair enough leader – You stayed loyal to the Alpha and your gang, you would be treated with respect and dignity. You dared betray them, mingling with the enemy or plotting against the leader, then you would be put down to nothing, everyone attacking you when they got the chance. Slaves, that’s what they would be, and Kansas expected to get a lot of them in his time as leader. A sly smile crossed his muzzle, before he threw a muscular head to the sky, a clear and chilling howl escaping his mouth and reaching high up into the sky, the sound never seeming to stop. For a few minutes he continued to call, before he whipped his head down once more, his eyes narrowing, as powerful limbs started to propel him forwards, towards the shores of the giant loch.
He ran and ran, his legs straining with the speed as he sprinted faster and faster towards the cool waters of the lake. His chest heaved with heavy breaths, and his tongue flopped lazily out the side of his mouth, but he enjoyed every minute of the strenuous exercise. His ears were pointed forwards, focused entirely on his destination, and as the land around him started to change from the rocky mountains to the soft ground surrounding the loch, he knew he was nearly there. Tall trees towered to every side of him, the scent of tree sap heavy on the air, but before he knew it, he had arrived at the supple banks of the water. Stopping, he smiled as he realised this place seemed even more perfect now than it had from afar – Across the water’s surface, on the other side of the loch, he could see a large rock jutting out over the surface of the water, it’s reflection twinkling in the small waves of the large expanse of water. It would be a brilliant place to call meetings from, and already Kansas had chosen this as the pack-gathering place. The trees provided shelter, giving his members somewhere to sleep, and also a place where the pups could play and grow strong, to become loyal members to his name one day. Kansas hoped dearly that lots of young would be brought into his ranks, for then they would grow, grow under his rule and learn the ways he would teach them. The foolish females could only follow, their spirits easy to break, and it was clear to see that Kansas frankly had no time for them. He didn’t want a mate, even if pups were appealing to him, but still, there was no other reason apart from that. A pack of this quality in his opinion only deserved a male leader, and a female trailing around after him would only slow him down. No, she would have to be something extra special to grab his attention, one that was truly powerful and strong, unlike some of the posers out there. Kansas snorted in disgust as he thought of them, before he inched closer to the waters of the loch, lowering his head and starting to drink. The liquid was still cold to the touch, and the winter frosts were still defrosting in some places, but it was a welcome relief after his run here, and he gulped down his drink quickly, before tossing his head up again, shaking the water from around his mouth. He smirked once more, before he loped around the banks of the lake again, and, after almost completing a half circuit around the loch, he was pleased to realise he had reached the rock he had seen earlier. Puffing his chest up proudly, he held his tail high in the air, before walking onto the firm surface, cautious at first as he wondered if it would support it’s weight, but, as he realised that it did, he became more bold, and eventually found himself standing right at the tip, the large expanse of water spread out before him, all the way to the place he had been standing before. “I, Kansas, claim this place in the name of the Artigli Feroci pack. Anyone who dares challenge me will feel my teeth on their necks, and this I shall promise.” He snarled, lips curling around his teeth once more. His eyes looked as if they were small sparks of ice now, standing out from his dark coat, and it took a lot of willpower for him not to leap around in excitement at his call of dictatorship. These lands were his now, and the realisation dawned on him that finally; at long last, he had the power he deserved.
